How to read a Meta Ads report in five minutes
Five numbers that tell you whether your Facebook and Instagram ads are working, explained in plain words.
By Kreative Lab team ·
Meta Ads Manager shows you dozens of columns. Most of them don't matter for a business owner. Here are the five that do, in the order we look at them every week.
1. Amount spent
Start here. Is the money going out at the pace you agreed? If you set ₹500 a day, a week should be close to ₹3,500. If spend is far below that, the ads may be stuck in review, or the audience may be too small.
2. Results
"Results" is whatever the campaign was set up to get: leads, messages, purchases or calls. Check that it's the thing you actually care about. A campaign optimised for "link clicks" will happily bring clicks that never turn into enquiries.
3. Cost per result
This is the number to watch. Divide amount spent by results and you get what each lead or sale costs you. Compare it week to week, not day to day. Daily numbers jump around too much to mean anything.
4. Frequency
Frequency is how many times, on average, the same person saw your ad. When it climbs past 3 or 4 on a small audience, people start ignoring the ad, and cost per result usually rises. That's the signal to refresh the creative.
5. Click-through rate (link)
This tells you whether the ad itself is interesting. A low rate means people scroll past. That's a creative problem, not a budget problem. Adding more money won't fix it.
What to ignore (mostly)
- Reach and impressions on their own. Big numbers feel good but don't pay the rent.
- Likes on ads. Nice, but they're not enquiries.
- Single-day swings. Look at seven days at a time.
The one question to ask your agency
"What did each lead cost this week, and what are you changing because of it?"
If the answer is clear and comes with a plan, you're in good hands. If it's a screenshot of reach, ask again.
